چکیده

Abstract Aim Lymphoscintigraphy (LSG) is the gold standard investigation in Lymphoedema. The study aimed to determine presence of Latent Lymphoedema (LL) unaffected limb when a patient presents with unilateral lymphoedema. Methods All new and follow up patients seen clinic between January May 2023 by either vascular consultant or lymphoedema nurse were included study. Their electronic records retrospectively reviewed. Clinical presentation findings compiled from letters if signs symptoms suggestive they then offered an LSG scan. Protocol involved determining uptake nano colloid tracer at ilio-inguinal lymph nodes 2 hours post subcutaneous injection 1st web space each foot. Quantitative < 8% was considered abnormal. Results 114 median age 63.2 (Range 24-83) clinic. Of those, 62 had scans. About 37% (n = 23) presented swelling lower limb. On scan average 1.6 1.6% clinically affected However 57% 13) these 2.7 % Ilio-inguinal nodes, unmasking latent on that side. Conclusion Presence lymphatic dysfunction should be as LL. This will allow initiation preventative measures prevent development gross disease future.

Diagnostic application of lymphoscintigraphy in the management of lymphoedema.

Lymphoedema (LOE) is an under-diagnosed condition which can cause severe incapacitating swelling of the extremities. Misdiagnosis and/or delayed diagnosis are common and the goal of further evaluation is to confirm the cause and determine the type and site of lymphatic obstruction. Lymphoscintigraphy (LSG) is a minimally invasive way of evaluation of the lymphatic system and can be used in the ...

Lymphoedema: lymphoscintigraphy versus other diagnostic techniques--a clinician's point of view.

This paper overviews the problem of the clinical basis, diagnosis and available therapy modalities for lymphoedema. Regarding diagnostics, the measurement of circumference, volume and thickness of the limb are presented, as well as diagnostic imaging modalities. These include direct and indirect lymphography, MRI, CT, ultrasound imaging and lymphoscintigraphy, which is currently considered the ...

Mutations in bone marrow-derived stromal stem cells unmask latent malignancy.

Neoplastic epithelia may remain dormant and clinically unapparent in human patients for decades. Multiple risk factors including mutations in tumor cells or the stromal cells may affect the switch from dormancy to malignancy. Gene mutations, including p53 mutations, within the stroma of tumors are associated with a worse clinical prognosis; however, it is not known if these stromal mutations ca...

Lymphoscintigraphy and sentinel nodes.

It has been validated that sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) shows whether a patient's breast cancer or melanoma has spread to regional lymph nodes. As a result, management of patients with these cancers has been revolutionized. SLNB has replaced axillary lymph node dissection (ALND) as the staging modality of choice for early breast cancer and has replaced complete lymph node dissection as the...

Pearls and pitfalls of radionuclide imaging of the lymphatic system. Part 2: evaluation of extremity lymphoedema.

This is the second of two pictorial essays on radionuclide imaging of the lymphatic system and will focus on evaluation of extremity lymphoedema using lymphoscintigraphy. Lymphoedema results from anatomical or functional obstruction of the lymphatic system. Lymphoscintigraphy is the imaging modality of choice for assessing lymphoedema. The technique plays a pivotal role in determining the aetio...
